As the 2026 season gets underway, the Gaels led by their two captains, Emma Smith and Savannah Branigan, are hungry to get back to the promised land and win a championship.

Pitcher Emma Smith is entering her 4th and final year of softball at Kennedy, playing Varsity all 4 years. The senior captain currently has sole possession of the Gaels' all-time pitching wins record. She is looking to add to that number this year and set the tone for the season to come.

Emma Smith is alco committed to continue her academic and athletic career to play Division III softball at McDaniels College in Maryland

Catcher/Shortstop Savannah Branigan is the other half of the Gaels dynamic pitching battery looking to step up as a voice in the clubhouse and rally the rest of the team to sustained victory. Going into her junior season, Branigan will slot into a leadership role nicely and continue to provide thump in the Gaels lineup.

Junior Ava Voyiatzis will be patrolling centerfield for the Gaels this season. Her elite softball IQ combined with her athleticism and versatility will be key to the Gaels success in 2026

Junior leadoff hitter Isabel Laguerre is "captain" of both the infield and outfield for the Gaels this year, patrolling shortstop and centerfield looking to utilize her cannon of an arm and speed to fortify the defense

Junior thirdbaseman Nina Sanice-Cavone is the Gaels defensive wizard in the hot corner, looking to continue shutting down any opposing attempts at reaching base.

For this week, Emma Smith is crowned the Gaels' Player of the Week after a monster two was performance. Pitching two complete games against St. Joseph By the Sea and Scanlan, giving up only 5 runs total. She also drove in 5 runs across the two games, proving to be a key offensive and defensive power.

This week's Players of the Week for the Gaels' come in the form of Zaylie Cabrel and senior Emma Smith. Cabrel went 1-0 on the mound this week, pitching two complete games, and going 3 for 5 with two triples at the plate. Smith shined for the Gaels in their doubleheader, pitching both complete games, dealing in 14 innings to the tune of 9 Ks and 2 ERs. At the plate, she went 1 for 3 and scored the winning run in game two.
